BE Presents... Afshan D'souza-Lodhi, Rick Dove, Cynthia Rodríguez
As read on Jhalak Prize's #BooksWeLove blog
The wonderful Nikita Gill talked about me and a couple fellow Burning Eye poets of colour on the #BooksWeLove blog for the Jhalak Prize: the breathtaking Afshan D’souza-Lodhi and Rick Dove.
Still on cloud nine from the recommendation, our publisher invited us three to perform for their series on their 2020 releases.
You should come and join. It’s on Wednesday 24th February (Día de la Bandera 🇲🇽) 7:30pm GMT time (1:30pm Central time, I think?). Tickets are free, but donations are very very very very welcome.
You can get our books from Burning Eye Books. If you’re abroad and/or have a lot of patience, you can get my book from my online shop.
Rodriguez uses both formidable composition, weaving layer complexity with accessible lyrical language to challenge the approved narrative of what a migrant must do to be accepted, humanising in its approach. Sharp and bright, Meanwhile is a devastatingly moving book I highly recommend.
